Our CIT (Counsellor-in-Training) Leadership Program is designed for 14 and 15 year old students passionate about nature and looking to gain experience in the outdoor education world! The ideal candidates would be responsible, caring individuals able to serve as a role model for our younger campers. CITs would be given opportunities to discover their own personal strengths while practicing leadership skills in a laid-back setting. Requirements: - Candidates must be 14 or 15 years of age - Minimum commitment of three weeks - Attendance at a one-day orientation June 3rd Philosophy: Summer Camp with Maine Outdoor Kids is all about supporting children's growth and building their confidence. We do this by finding the sweet spot between allowing space for independence and supporting development. It’s important to us that all children find their voice through creativity, problem solving & social collaboration. Our team work collaboratively to facilitate daily activities, give choices, and build on in-the-moment opportunities to prompt children’s thinking. Over the course of the camp week, CITs support instructors as they lead children in exploring different outdoor locations. The foundation for everything we do is play. Locations: All MOK programming utilizes public parks, trail systems and green spaces to help connect children and their families to accessible outdoor spaces. Each day of camp we are at a different location - 4 total. These are determined based on weather forecasts & desired activities. Parents receive the full curriculum with locations emailed out the week before camp, along with packing lists and details. Parents are responsible for transportation to and from camp each day (all locations are within 20min of Portland). For more information email
