Details:
This one’s for riders who are ready for more time on two wheels—more exploring, more confidence, and more opportunities to build skills along the way. Designed for riders who are comfortable on their bikes and ready to ride a little farther, this 4-week course offers a relaxed, exploratory alternative to our trail-focused mountain bike programs. Each week, riders will head out together on easy, mellow routes through bike paths, neighborhoods, green spaces, and low-key trails. Coaching is woven into the ride, with plenty of time to practice skills, explore, and enjoy being outside. Dropoff/Pickup: Payson Park, Portland Session Dates: 9/18-10/9 (4 weeks) Time: 4:00-6:00PM Best For: Grades 2-4 Maximum Group Size: 8 riders What to Expect: Each week, riders will explore a new route while building confidence and comfort on their bikes. We’ll practice and reinforce skills like body positioning, braking, shifting, climbing, descending, navigating different surfaces, and riding safely as a group. This is not a mountain bike-specific program. Riders can participate on a mountain bike, hybrid, or gravel bike—whatever they’re most comfortable riding. Routes will focus on mellow terrain and accessible trails, with an emphasis on exploration, awareness, and having fun on two wheels. Rides are active and engaging, with plenty of time spent moving, exploring, and learning through experience. This group is best suited for riders who: - Are comfortable riding independently and have basic bike-handling skills - Can use hand brakes and shift gears independently - Have some experience riding on bike paths, neighborhood routes, or mellow trails - Can ride continuously for an extended period with short breaks - Are comfortable riding as part of a group - Are curious, willing to try new things, and excited to explore Riders should come with a well-functioning bike suitable for mellow trail and path riding, along with a properly fitting helmet, water, and a snack. Mountain bikes, gravel bikes, and hybrid bikes are all welcome. Group size is intentionally limited so riders get individualized feedback while still benefiting from the energy and fun of riding together. Questions about whether this is the right fit?
