Dates: July 24-27 Time: 9am-3pm Best For: Grades 1-2 Maximum Group Size: 8 Where outdoor play meets mountain biking. Summer Camp with Maine Outdoor Kids is all about supporting your child’s growth and building their confidence. We do this by finding the sweet spot between allowing space for independence and supporting development. It’s important to us that your child finds their voice through creativity, problem solving & social collaboration. Our team is there to facilitate activities, give choices, and prompt children’s thinking. There is no better atmosphere for this than the outdoors! Over the course of the camp week, children will explore different outdoor locations around Greater-Portland with energetic & skilled instructors. Mountain Biking weeks are open to riders of all skill levels and focus on mountain biking skills, while enjoying time off the bike for play and creativity: * Growing bike knowledge - bike parts, what they do & how they all function together. * Learning how to safely bike as a group to have fun and be responsible trail users. * Getting hands-on experience cleaning and inspecting bikes & basic maintenance to keep bikes functioning properly. * Basic skillbuilding - body positioning, climbing & descending, efficient shifting and braking. * Practice using both GPS & paper maps to orient themselves within the trail systems. * Group rides & skills drills to put mind to muscle * Outdoor time doesn’t always involve movement. Arts & crafts and STEM activities creates balance to these active days. * Team building games and unstructured play Payment for summer camps is due June 1st, 2023. You may select the ‘Pay in Person’ option to pay later, or by check or Venmo (@maineoutdoorkids). Checks save us processing fees. Biking equipment including a well-functioning bike, helmet & means to carry water (hydration vest or bottle cage) are needed for this program. Please plan to pack a lunch and waterbottle each day. All MOK programming utilizes public parks, trail systems and green spaces to help connect children and their families to accessible outdoor spaces. Each day of camp we are at a different location - 4 total. These are determined based on weather forecasts & trail difficulty. Parents receive the full curriculum with locations emailed out the week before camp, along with packing lists and details. Parents are responsible for transportation to and from camp each day (all locations are within 20min of Portland).
