Dates: August 14-17 Time: 9am-4pm Best For: Grades 1-3 Maximum Group Size: 10 Summer Camp with Maine Outdoor Kids is all about supporting your child’s growth and building their confidence. We do this by finding the sweet spot between allowing space for independence and supporting development. It’s important to us that your child finds their voice through creativity, problem solving & social collaboration. Our team is there to facilitate activities, give choices, and prompt children’s thinking. There is no better atmosphere for this than the outdoors! Over the course of the camp week, children will explore different outdoor locations around Greater-Portland with energetic & skilled instructors. The foundation for everything we do is play. Making Waves weeks are all about staying cool and diving deep into the incredible bodies of water we have available to us here in Maine: * Trips to the beach or islands within Casco Bay provide the opportunity to learn about our oceans, the working waterfront & some of Portland’s naval history. * Leading conversations and activities about sustainability & stewardship of the environment * Lakes and rivers provide lovely swimming spots on hot days and opportunities to explore freshwater plants & animals by way of canoe. * Outdoor time doesn’t always involve movement. Arts & crafts and STEM activities using our surroundings creates balance to these active days. * Sports, team building games and other movement-based activities work through some of that physical and emotional energy kids carry. Payment for summer camps is due 6/1/23. You may select the ‘Pay in Person’ option to pay later, or by check or Venmo (@maineoutdoorkids). Some basic equipment including comfortable walking shoes, rain layers, backpack, waterbottle & lunch are needed for this program. All MOK programming utilizes public parks, trail systems and green spaces to help connect children and their families to accessible outdoor spaces. Each day of camp we are at a different location - 4 total. These are determined based on weather forecasts & desired activities. Parents receive the full curriculum with locations emailed out the week before camp, along with packing lists and details. Parents are responsible for transportation to and from camp each day (all locations are within 20min of Portland).
