Summer Camp Programs

Summer Outdoors. Growth Through Play.

Summer is made for adventure—and ours unfolds entirely outside. Each week, children explore Greater-Portland’s trails, parks, and green spaces through hands-on play, discovery, and connection. Rain or shine, we embrace the season’s full spectrum of weather, helping kids build resilience, curiosity, and confidence in nature.

Why Summer in Nature?

We believe that summer should be about movement, imagination, and unhurried exploration. Time outdoors gives children the freedom to follow their interests, test their limits, and rediscover joy in the natural world. Whether climbing trees, building forts, or discovering tiny ecosystems under logs, each moment outside nurtures creativity, independence, and social-emotional growth.

"Some of our child's favorite parts of camp included hunting for treasures, rocks, sticks, gems to add to his collection, playing games, and spending time in tidepools. The camp days clearly gave our child space to explore, be curious, and direct his energy in really positive ways. Over the past couple of months, we’ve seen him grow a ton in resilience, confidence, and flexibility, and we know MOK played a big role in that."

Place-Based Exploration.

Our programs are rooted in local landscapes—public parks, trail systems, and natural areas in and around Portland (all within 20 minutes of the city). Each week’s locations are chosen based on weather, trail conditions, and unique opportunities for play and learning. Children experience a new location each day, deepening their sense of place and connection to the natural spaces in their own community.

Small Groups. Meaningful Connection.

We believe that smaller groups create stronger communities. That’s why our camps are intentionally limited to 8–10 children, with a 1:5 instructor-to-child ratio. This allows our educators to truly get to know each camper, supporting authentic relationships and individualized learning experiences.

Learning Through Play.

Our days flow with a mix of unstructured play and guided group activities—hiking, games, storytelling, crafts, and exploration. We follow the children’s lead, offering choices and space to pursue interests while weaving in opportunities for teamwork and creative problem-solving. Play is our foundation for growth—socially, emotionally, and creatively.

Experienced Instructors. Supportive Mentors.

Our team of outdoor educators brings both expertise and heart to every camp. They are compassionate guides, adaptable leaders, and role models who foster trust and belonging. They meet children where they are each day—offering encouragement, flexibility, and care. With patience and curiosity, our instructors help every child find joy, confidence, and belonging in the outdoors.
