Where unstructured play meets outdoor adventure education. Where: Evergreen Cemetery, Portland Time: 2:10-5:00pm Session Dates: December 4th -> March 11th (11 weeks) Best For: K-4th graders Maximum Group Size: 10 (5:1) Pickup: Longfellow Elementary A combination of exploring the trails and ponds, outdoor education, sports, arts & crafts and unstructured self-directed play time. We provide hot drinks during the winter session. Our goal is to give kids a safe and fun space to release some energy after school and be with friends old and new! Pickup by 5PM at "basecamp" by the sugarbowl. Our instructors pick up at Longfellow Elementary at 2:10 and walk the 3/4 mile to the cemetery together. This group is mixed ages. Kids from other schools are welcome to join but must have their own transportation from school. Winter Session will run every Monday from December 4th through March 11th (11 WEEKS). No MOK during Winter Break (12/25 & 1/1), MLK Day (1/15) or February Break (2/19). All MOK programming utilizes public parks, trail systems and green spaces to help connect children and their families to accessible outdoor spaces. We feel that this approach allows both staff and families involved to learn about and appreciate outdoor recreation opportunities right here in Southern Maine. For After-School Programs, instructors pick up groups at school and walk as a a group to basecamp. We see this as a time for kids to decompress from the day, catch up with friends and to reset before a fun afternoon outside! Our after-school programs are entirely outside, rain or shine. We will communicate directly with you and provide a packing list for each season and the appropriate clothing to pack. Unless there is particularly bad weather in the forecast where there's a safety concern, we may end early or cancel. We will give you ~24hrs notice if this occurs. In the event school is cancelled for weather, there is no MOK and no refunds given. Payment for this session is due December 1st. You may select the ‘Pay in Person’ option to pay later, or by check or Venmo (@maineoutdoorkids). Checks save us processing fees.
