Private Bike Instruction
Progress at their pace. Build confidence on the trails.
Details:
Private lessons are designed to help your child build confidence and progress their mountain biking skills at their own pace. We offer 90-minute lessons for ages 5 and up, either 1:1 or 1:2—bring a friend or caregiver at no additional cost. All abilities are welcome, from brand-new riders to kids who are ready to take on more challenging singletrack. All private lessons are taught by Effie (she/her), a PMBIA Certified MTB Coach and Wilderness First Responder with a deep knowledge of Southern Maine trails. We’ll choose a lesson location based on your child’s goals, trail conditions, and where you live, with the goal of helping them build skills on trails they can continue to ride on their own. The biggest benefit of a private lesson is that we can tailor the experience to your child. We’ll work at their pace and focus on the skills that will help them feel more confident and capable on the bike. Depending on their experience and goals, this might include climbing, braking, cornering, descending, navigating roots and rocks, switchbacks, berms, wheel lifts, technical features, line choice, or simply feeling more comfortable on the trail. We’ll start with a quick bike check and conversation about trail safety and etiquette, then use skills drills and demonstrations to practice technique before heading out on the trails to put those skills into practice. Please come prepared with a well-functioning bike, properly fitting helmet, at least 12 oz of water, and a snack. Most importantly, come ready to ride, learn, and have fun! Questions?
