Details:

Where nature play meets outdoor education. Where: Canco Woods, Portland Best For: K-3rd graders Session Dates: 3/17-6/9 Pickup Time: 5pm Maximum Group Size: 10 Our outdoor programs are rooted in the belief that nature—and the changing seasons—are powerful teachers. Through hands-on exploration, movement, and curiosity-driven learning, children engage deeply with the environment, discovering how to observe, respect, and interact with the natural world. Designed to complement the structured rhythm of the school day, this program offers a more fluid, open-ended experience that nurtures creativity, physical activity, and personal discovery. Guided by experienced and supportive outdoor instructors, participants are encouraged to ask questions, challenge themselves, and connect meaningfully with both the land and one another, fostering a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors. We utilize public parks, trail systems, and green spaces to help connect children and their families with accessible outdoor areas. This approach encourages families to explore and appreciate the many opportunities to spend time outside—right here in our own community. For all after-school programs, our instructors meet groups at school dismissal and walk together to basecamp. This transition time is an important opportunity for kids to decompress from the day, connect with friends and instructors, and reset before an engaging afternoon outside. A unique aspect of our after-school program is that we are outdoors year-round. We provide families with seasonal guidance on appropriate clothing and gear, and we’re always available to offer tips or answer questions. Our team monitors the weather closely each week. If extreme weather is expected, we may move to an indoor space or arrange for an earlier pickup, depending on the conditions. We aim to provide families with at least 24 hours' notice of any changes. Our team communicates regularly with parents and caregivers via email, so it's important that you are able to check and read those messages to stay up to date. We follow the PPS calendar and only run programs on school days. The Spring 2026 Session will meet every Tuesday from March 17th to June 9th (12 weeks). There will be no program on April 21st for April Break. If school is canceled due to weather, MOK will be canceled too. A $100 non-refundable deposit is required upon registration. The remaining tuition balance is due March 1st.
