We do this by finding the sweet spot between allowing space for independence and supporting development. Over the course of the camp week, children will explore different outdoor locations with energetic & skilled instructors who facilitate learning opportunities. It’s important to us that your child finds their voice through creativity, problem solving & collaboration. There is no better atmosphere for this than the outdoors! This week keeps the elements of play and exploration of our standard camp while weaving in mountain biking. The focus is foremost on body awareness so rides are safe and fun. We do daily bike safety checks, skills drills, games and group trail rides. Our PMBIA Certified Instructor will lead your child through the fundamentals of mountain biking - body positioning, braking, shifting/cadence, climbing/descending - with a specific focus each day. No matter the level your child is riding at, there is room to progress. Other topics are LNT, basic bike maintenance, and trail etiquette. The goal is not to burn your child out from biking but to leave them feeling empowered and wanting more. Our programs are entirely outside which eliminates transitional time in vehicles, giving us an abundance of time at chosen locations. Rain or shine, we venture outdoors and help build resilience and confidence being out in all weather. We work with caregivers to make sure each child is prepared with proper clothes, gear and food. A small camp size allows for flexibility so we can tune into each child’s individual needs and give plenty of individualized instruction. Building connections with each child is where we excel. No two weeks of camp with MOK are the same. While we have our favorite spots, each group will get to experience four different locations, each with its own trails to explore. We feel this approach connects families to local spaces and builds love and respect for the trails. Open to all levels. For safety purposes, your child must have some basic bike experience including the ability to ride up to 40 minutes at a time and be familiar with their bike. Required gear: well-tuned bike (hand brakes, 4+ speeds), helmet & either bottle cage or hydration vest.
